Mary Roma Kehoe (1942 – 2024)
Roma Kehoe, a teacher by profession, was a dedicated member of the Cape Breton community. She was an avid volunteer, contributing her time, talent, and treasure to numerous organizations on the island, including the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.
Roma was one of the founders and long-time volunteers of our Foundation’s Festival of the Greens gala, which is celebrating its 20th year in 2024. Building upon Roma’s vision, the gala has now raised over $2.6 million for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
In 2023, Roma was inducted into the Cape Breton Philanthropy Hall of Fame for her profound impact on the community via her volunteerism.
“Showing kindness was mom’s greatest strength, as was treating everyone with compassion, no matter the circumstances,” shares Roma’s daughters, Paullette Kraitzek and Claudette Porter. “She taught us empathy and how to be a contributing member to our community.”
It is our absolute honour to publish the 2024-2025 Because You Care Catalogue in loving memory of Mary (Roma) Kehoe, and the lasting legacy she has left on health care in Cape Breton.
