Hi friends,
I'm participating in Teal to Heal Cape Breton, a run/walk in support of ovarian cancer and other gynaecological cancers.
The reason is for myself and very special family member, Amy MacRae, Amy was a radiant and resilient woman whose journey with ovarian cancer revealed the full depth of her courage and grace. Diagnosed with low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC). Amy faced each stage with remarkable strength, never allowing the disease to define her spirit. Throughout her battle, she remained fiercely compassionate, deeply thoughtful, and profoundly connected to the people and passions that brought her joy—especially storytelling and the written word. Her experience inspired those around her, not just through her bravery, but through her enduring commitment to hope, creativity, and advocacy. Amy’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the memoir award that now bears her name, encouraging others to share their voices and stories. Amy was not only a courageous woman but also an extraordinary mother and devoted wife whose love anchored her family through every season of life. She poured her heart into raising Evie, nurturing her with warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support. As a wife, Amy was a true partner to Garreth sharing in life’s joys and challenges with deep love and loyalty. Her presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and her legacy lives on in the beautiful family she built and the love she gave so freely. Even as Amy faced the immense challenges of her illness, she never stopped showing up for others with compassion, strength, and an open heart, especially to myself when I battled my tumour. Despite the pain and fatigue that came with her cancer journey, Amy continued to uplift those around her—offering a listening ear, Thoughtful words, and unwavering encouragement. She became a quiet pillar of support for others facing their own struggles, embodying grace in the most difficult of moments. Her selflessness, deep empathy and innate kindness. Amy’s strength wasn’t just in how she endured, but in how she continued to give, connect, and care for others until the very end. To read more about Amy please see :
