Hello Family and Friends

Welcome to our fundraiser page for our team, Charlie’s Angels. This is the fourth Mother’s Day that I will be participating in the fundraiser, Teal to Heal. For those of you who are not familiar with this fundraiser, the goal is to help raise money that will go to support women who have been diagnosed with a gynecological cancer. These cancers include vaginal, vulvar, ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancers.  These women are our friends, our sisters, our aunts, our cousins, and as of last year, it also included our beautiful mother, Charlene (Charlie). In the fall of 2023, mom was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. For the entire span of 2024, mom had undergone treatment for her cancer which included two surgeries in Halifax, chemotherapy here in the Cape Breton Cancer Center, as well as many follow up appointments. She has been through many branches of our healthcare system including diagnostic imaging, blood collections, as well as receiving indirect treatment from other modalities for issues that she encountered secondary to her cancer or cancer treatment. Today, mom continues to get treatment and is doing so much better. This year, mom will be returning to her Volunteer post at Teal to Heal, as one of her favorite things to do is giving back to her community.

Throughout her treatment, Mom has felt the support offered to her directly from Teal to Heal. As you may or may not be aware, women in Cape Breton being treated for gynecological cancers require travel to Halifax for consultation with the gyney oncologists as well as for surgery if required. As you can imagine, this unexpected diagnosis can also come with unexpected financial strain. Many people may not have the financial means to pay for travel including the cost of fuel, food and accommodations.

The money raised through Teal to Heal will directly impact the care that women receive for their gyney cancer. This may present in the form of financial aide, medical equipment, and their beautiful comfort and care packages which are meticulously filled with love. It is very obvious that these care packages are designed by someone who knew what these women are going through. Thank you, Dena….
